Fine & Fiber Art

weaving & rugs & punch needle &…

My visual art practice centers on a wide variety of fiber art: punch needle, rug tufting, weaving, knotting, quilting, even some occasional sloppy knitting. Drawing, painting, collage, and any other way I can play with color and make a mess show up from time to time as well. Playing with color and staying focused on materials and texture are my most consistent practices. Much of my visual inspiration coming from the rich history of quilting, knotting, and the many other ways decorative arts have brought beauty to utilitarian objects for all of human history.

Some of work is at Luna & Luz, in Old Town in Albuquerque in 2022. (The large gold & cream macrame weaving and round punch needle piece above are mine; center woven pieces are not my work.)

Relearning the basics of a variety of fiber practices - including knitting and macrame - has been a fun entry into exploring new ways to make, weave, and combine materials.

Learning to weave

Like many people, the beginning of the pandemic in 2022 brought a quick stop to my current creative practices (which had been focused on poetry at that time). Feeling totally stuck and unable to write - I turned to collage and (returned to) weaving as creative outlets that held no pressure or expectation.
